E ERGYTech ReviewFor years, there was an industry-wide perception that enterprises that rely on onshore and offshore partners risk losing control over critical organizational functions and expose themselves to data breaches, cyber-attacks, and ulterior motives such as hidden costs. The thought of an onshore partner, such as a managed service provider, gaining access to an organization's IT infrastructure never sat well with Fortune 500 companies. Similarly, allowing an offshore partner to communicate on their behalf was viewed as a strict no-no by multi-national corporations. Also, factors such as language barriers, cultural nuances, misalignment of expectations, and varying time zones gave enterprises cause to pause. However, the combination of mass scale globalization and the advancement of cognitive technologies have led to a drastic shift in outsourcing trends adopted by enterprises across the globe. In today's landscape, enterprises are seeing the benefits of onshore and offshore technology solution providers in countries such as India and Vietnam where the talents possess cutting-edge skills and don't compromise an organization's bottom line. Since the overseas talents undergo comprehensive training, and more importantly, are receptive to the training, organizations are far less skeptical to offshore operations. It's also crucial to note that the proliferation of automation into the working space has eliminated the need for humans to perform transactional activities, and thereby diminishing the demand for offshore/low-cost resources. The recent shift in political scenarios such as the 2016 U.S. elections and the Brexit Referendum have also influenced pre-existing outsourcing practices. These events have also led to enterprises increasingly discard old outsourcing models to adopt outsourcing centers in remote and small cities in the U.S. Moreover, the advent of technologies such as the cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, blockchain, not to mention enhanced cybersecurity has given businesses more control than they've ever had before. Furthermore, the increasing cost of outsourced resources has reduced the merit available from a pure labor arbitrage perspective. Outsourcing operations of the company within the country has also provided the added advantage of probability for more frequent site visits.Today's enterprises can fearlessly leverage the benefits of highly-skilled offshore and onshore labor with little or no language barrier.
