Crowley invests in Tugdock to expand wind energy production in the US by leveraging Tugdock'sTugdock Submersible Platform.

Crowley reveals investment in Tugdock, a road-transportable floating dry dock developer called the Tugdock Submersible Platform (TSP). The investment is set to advance offshore wind energy in the US. Crowley and Tugdock will explore potential uses of the platforms in locations such as the US West Coast, where conventional dry docks may not be suitable for the logistics involved.

As part of Crowley Wind Services, wind terminals are planned and developed in California, Louisiana, and Massachusetts. For the Pacific waters recently approved for wind energy leases, Crowley is constructing and operating a terminal for manufacturing, assembling, and operating offshore wind floating platforms, using large, heavy cargo vessels, and providing crewing and marshaling services. On the West Coast, floating offshore wind turbines will be used at Humboldt State and other installations.
"The cost and time constraints associated with port infrastructure developments and submersible barge suitability are major bottlenecks holding back the growth of the floating offshore wind sector," said Lucas Lowe-Houghton, Director of Strategy and Growth at Tugdock. This is a massive benefit, as planning permission for a permanent facility could significantly delay project schedules and not provide a return on investment.
