FREMONT, CA: The construction of a gigafactory for lithium-ion batteries in France is expected to boost the European battery industry, create jobs, and advance cleaner mobility. The plant's goal is to increase the output of batteries for electric cars while emphasising environmental sustainability, efficiency, high quality, and safety. The programme aligns with the overarching objectives of encouraging energy transition and innovation in electric mobility, demonstrating a dedication to tackling environmental issues and propelling advancements in the clean energy sector.
It is within the jurisdiction to assess product quality and settle related matters, which allows to take care of environmental issues and improve the environment. This becomes more important since AESC (Automotive Energy Supply Corporation) plans to build a battery gigafactory in Douai, France, by 2025. The factory will initially focus on manufacturing lithium-ion batteries for Renault's ECHO 5 and 4Ever crossover utility vehicles. Eventually, it hopes to power 200,000 electric cars a year.

By 2030, additional expansions are expected to increase capacity to 24 to 30 gigawatt-hours. AESC's project is supported by the European Investment Bank, which provided €112.8 million in indirect funding to participating commercial banks and €337.2 million in direct financing. This project not only increases the sustainability of the European battery industry but also contributes to the reindustrialisation of the Hauts-de-France region, pivotal in Renault's strategic transition towards electric vehicles.

The establishment of AESC's first plant in France, with the help of the European Investment Bank, will advance the European battery industry. This initiative, which is supported by the European Commission and aligns with the InvestEU programme, aims to stimulate an additional €372 billion in investment in Europe between 2021 and 2027.
The gigafactory represents an advancement for AESC as well as for the green goals of France and Europe. Increasing the accessibility of batteries and electric vehicles is a major step forward in the advancement of clean mobility. Significant job opportunities are anticipated as a result of the gigafactory, with the region of Douai and Hauts-de-France potentially receiving up to 3,000 new jobs by 2030 and 1,200 direct jobs in the next three years.
