LG Energy Solution contributes 400MW/1,600MWh to Vistra's Moss Landing Energy Storage Facility, which was honored during the facility's Media Day event.
FREMONT, CA: LG Energy Solution, South Korea's top maker of innovative lithium-ion batteries, and Vistra Corp. hosted a media day to commemorate the completion of the 400MW/1.6GWh Vistra Moss Landing Energy Storage Facility in Monterey County, California. Representatives from the California ISO, the Pacific Gas and Electric Company, Vistra, Burns & McDonnell, and LG Energy Solution attended the event as guests and presenters for the ribbon-cutting ceremony, news conference, and site tours.
Moss Landing is a showcase project for Vistra's advanced energy storage capacity development, for which LG Energy Solution provided batteries for the first 400MW/1.6GWh of capacity using its most revolutionary Transportable Rack (TR1300). The project is the world's largest lithium-ion battery energy storage project, and LG Energy Solution's creative product development and effective on-site support significantly decreased installation time and costs while increasing customer value.

The Moss Landing project will enable California's energy system to transition to more clean, renewable resources, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and boosting grid resilience. LG Energy Solution and Vistra have partnered to provide emissions-free electricity to 300,000 households during times of peak demand.

In a press conference, Claudia Morrow, Vistra's Senior Vice President of Development and Strategy, notes that LG Energy Solution's breakthrough battery technology and commitment to this project were critical to the Moss Landing Energy Storage Facility's success. They share a common goal of accelerating the nation's transition to zero-emission energy. As more intermittent renewables come online, battery initiatives like this are critical in establishing a more stable grid.
Youngjoon Shin, LG Energy Solution's Senior Vice President of ESS Business, states that as the August 2020 California blackouts and West Coast heatwaves garner national and even global attention, the role of battery energy storage in supplying energy and ensuring its quality becomes even more critical to LG Energy Solution, based on their timely experience with the Moss Landing Energy Storage Facility, will operate as a solutions partner for the expansion of battery energy storage throughout the United States, adding further to climate-friendly renewable energy.
