New S-Series Power Optimizers come with new sensor technology to make commercial PV systems safer.
FREMONT, CA: “Multi-layered safety technology and ease of installation are key differentiators of our technology, alongside advances in energy efficiency and improved economics which are additional important factors for the proliferation of solar energy," states Peter Mathews, General Manager of SolarEdge North America. SolarEdge Technologies, a global leader in smart, has come up with the S-Series new range of smart Power Optimizers energy technology at RE+ (booth #2416) in Anaheim, California. Adding SolarEdge Sense Connect technology to its multi-layered safety approach, the latest generation of Power Optimizers is now available for commercial and industrial PV applications in North America.
“We will continue to set benchmarks in industry safety by focusing on innovative solutions that bring even more reliability to the market,” adds Mathews.

SolarEdge Sense Connect is a first-of-its-kind device that detects a rise in connector temperature to prevent potential electric sparks. SolarEdge Sense Connect technology prevents arcing by recognizing and reacting to anomalous connector overheating caused by faulty installations or connectors. Having module-level site visibility allows O&M providers to be alerted to the exact location of the link, facilitating rapid and straightforward repairs. This maximizes system safety, and availability and reduces O&M expenses. The SolarEdge Sense Connect technology unites an expanded range of safety features, including the SafeDCTM technology, which is designed to automatically reduce PV system DC voltage to touch-safe levels (1V DC per module) during grid failures or when the inverter is turned off. Rapid Shutdown allows installers to activate SafeDC with the flick of a switch, draining the conductors to safe voltage levels in less than 30 seconds.
The S-Series Power Optimizer is designed to accept higher power modules and bi-facial modules, which might suffer from even larger potential power loss due to module mismatch on the back side. The S-Series, with its 99.5% efficiency and support for two high-power, high-input-current PV modules, reduces the Levelized Cost of Energy by increasing yield and enabling longer, more powerful strings.
The S-Series also features a streamlined wire architecture, which expedites installation and reduces the likelihood of isolation errors.
