Vertical turbines
Horizontal-axis wind turbines dominate the commercial wind turbine market, with OEMs continuing to make them better to reap economies of scale. If standard horizontal axis wind turbines (HAWTs) are changed with a vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) design with a turbine diameter, deep-sea and coastal wind turbines could achieve a 15 percent improvement in power output.
Wind energy reinvention
A start-up in Spain, Vortex Bladeless Ltd, redefines wind power by using a vortex-induced vibration resonant wind generator to completely away from blades. This method employs the Vortex Shedding principle, in which an inventive mechanism oscillates with quiet movements, generating wind energy. As a result, it is an effective design that can be placed anywhere without disrupting the habitat or animals of the area. The body begins to oscillate and enters resonance with the wind when the frequency of these cyclical forces is close enough to the structural frequency of the body. Vortex-Induced Vibration (VIV) is another name for this phenomenon. After that, the alternator system transforms mechanical energy into electric energy, resulting in the generation of electricity.
Airborne wind energy
Airborne Wind Energy (AWE) is a new wind energy converter that uses a tether to connect flying blades or wings to the surface. A flying wing with mounted turbines and generators or having the wing pull on the tether that is driving the generator as it unwinds, are the two main principles underlying this technology. In the first example, the kite is always flying crosswind; power is generated onboard and evacuated via the tether. The kite flies out in a spiral and provides a tractive force on the tether in the latter scenario; the winch generates energy as it is reeled out.
